Firstly, PLEASE DON’T PANIC. We don’t believe in the rules and pressures of wedding dress shopping timeframes. The White Wedding House is a long established bridal boutique in Brentwood, Essex. We always have lots of dresses which are available to be purchased and collected on the day you come for your appointment. Our amazing in-house bridal seamstress will make sure that your wedding dress is the perfect fit in time for the big day.

If however, you do have more time and can plan things out and want to have the biggest selection of wedding dresses out there, the it’s generally a good idea to start shopping for your wedding dress 9 to 12 months before your wedding date. This allows plenty of time for you to find the perfect gown, get it altered to fit just right, and account for any delays in production or shipping.

Here’s a rough breakdown of the timeline:

9-12 Months Before Your Wedding

  • Start shopping for your dress: This gives you enough time to browse different designers and styles without feeling rushed. Don’t overthink it. It you find the right dress in the first shop, don’t be afraid to make it yours.
  • Consider custom or made-to-order dresses: If you’re going for something custom-made, it can take 6 months or more for production.

6-9 Months Before Your Wedding

  • Place your order: If you’ve found the dress, now’s the time to order it. Most dresses are made to order, which takes time for the designer to produce.

3 Months Before Your Wedding

  • First fitting: This is when your dress will start to take shape, but there’s still room for alterations (like adjustments to the hem, straps, or bust area). Go for your fitting when you are closest to your ideal wedding weight. Don’t forget to take your shoes!

2 Months Before Your Wedding

  • Final fitting: By this time, your dress should be almost perfect. You’ll do a final fitting to make sure everything fits comfortably and looks great.

1 Month Before Your Wedding

  • Pick up your dress: You should have your dress in hand by now, ready for the big day!
